Job Description:

Located in Carol Stream, IL, the Sr. Controls Engineer will work
with the Engineering, Applications Engineering, Equipment
Operations and Sales Teams to design controls and electrical
systems for made-to-order automation and standard equipment of our
Trans Tech product line of Industrial Decorating Solutions.
Use Allen Bradley software to design and program PLCs and HMIs for
multi-station made-to-order automation systems using Trans Tech
standards. Program PLC's using ladder logic with structured, clear
programming and program HMI's using design standards. Apply broad
knowledge of technical principles and practices to define
appropriate system concepts and to design systems that are
fit-for-purpose in terms of safety, performance and
reliability.
Use SolidWorks Electrical to design electrical schematics including
controls, safety and power circuits, pneumatic systems, bill of
materials and panel layouts for new made-to-order automation
systems per internal and customer specifications. Work with
Mechanical Engineers to integrate the electrical, pneumatic, and
mechanical designs.
Test, troubleshoot and debug made-to-order automation systems
utilizing internal test scripts and customer provided factory
acceptance test protocols.
Work with other Controls Engineers in creating and updating Trans
Tech programming standards for PLCs and HMIs, design standards for
electrical/pneumatic systems.
Create and edit operation and troubleshooting manuals for
made-to-order automation systems.
Support Service Group in troubleshooting issues with existing,
installed standard products and made-to-order automations out in
the field, using Mitsubishi, Panasonic, Siemens and Allen Bradley
PLC and HMI software.
Support Application Group with costing, electrical and controls
concepts for new applications.
Participate in project and design review meetings as required. Meet
project budget, schedule, and deadlines.
Participate in ITW Toolbox projects,
Travel and interface with customer and Trans Tech resources as
required to troubleshoot controls issues at customer sites.
Adhere to site safety policies and actively contribute to safety
improvement efforts.
Ability to provide technical guidance and mentorship to
professional personnel in area of expertise
Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to effectively
communicate with a wide range of individuals

**Education: ** Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering
preferred. Minimum Associates/technical degree with equivalent
technical experience and demonstrated competence; additional
post-graduate education may contribute toward the desired years of
experience; typically requires 5+ years of significant engineering
and operational experience to meet the skills and responsibilities
of the position.
Experience/Skills:
5-7 years controls and electrical design experience on custom
automation required. Experience using Allen Bradley RS Logix
5000/Studio 5000 for PLC programming and Allen Bradley FactoryTalk
for HMI programming required. Experience in electrical, pneumatic
and panel design required. (SolidWorks Electrical strongly
preferred, if not, AutoCAD Electrical required.)
Mitsubishi, Panasonic, or Siemens programming experience a plus but
not required.
Demonstrated understanding and knowledge of all applicable
electrical standards, including but not limited to NEC, NFPA and
OSHA standards.
Demonstrated strong creative problem solving, self-motivation,
multi-tasking, communications (written and verbal), technical
writing skills and a team player.
Ability to travel overnight (

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently
required to talk, hear, sit and type, occasionally twist/turn,
reach above shoulder and outward, stand, walk, bend, grasp with
hands on a regular, daily basis and lift, stretch, and squat
throughout the day.
Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs.
Specific vision abilities required by this job include concentrated
attention, close vision, far vision, depth perception, color
vision, and the ability to bring object into sharp focus.
