Rogers Corporation is looking for a talented individual to join the Research and Development Team in our Carol Stream, IL facility. The role is responsible for commissioning, starting up and leading the operation of a newly constructed pilot line that will support new product and process development of silicone elastomeric materials. These materials find applications in a wide range of high-growth markets such as automotive, aerospace, general industrial, transportation. This individual will be an integral part of and will work closely with a talented and highly skilled team of R&D engineers and process technicians dedicated to the operation of the pilot line. The role is responsible for leading the pilot line operation in a safe and efficient manner and for implementing improvements to expand and improve our technology capabilities.Essential Functions:
Provide leadership and ensure safe operation of all aspects for the pilot line operation
Actively participate in technical discussions and brainstorming with R&D engineers in developing product and process concepts.
Assist in scale up of new materials and products, and support technology transfer from pilot plant to manufacturing process.
Develop and test new process ideas to improve and expand our process technology capabilities.
Work with inside resources and outside vendors and tollers and conduct process trials to test feasibility of new concepts.
Responsible for all daily operational aspects of the pilot line and troubleshoot issues as they arise.
Assist in root cause investigations of R&D and manufacturing-related issues.
Participate in cross-functional teams with R&D, Operations, Process Engineering, Maintenance and EH&S to execute projects, resolve issues and communicate progress toward common goals.
Maintain clean, organized and safe workspace using best engineering practices.
Write working procedures, train pilot plant personnel, maintain inventory and production and maintenance schedule.
Other duties as assignedQualifications:
A 4-year degree in Chemical Engineering or Mechanical Engineering
3-5 years prior industrial experience
Experience in working in a pilot plant is a plus.
Excellent written and verbal communication and presentation skills
Demonstrated understanding and application of technical knowledge in unit operations such as mixing, particle dispersion, polymer processing, chemical reactors, web conversion processes
Familiarity with process control systems
Ability and interest to learn quickly and develop new skills
Experience and ability to work with cross-functional development teams
Computer and analytical skills (MS Office, internet searches, e-mail)
Experience in statistical data analysis
Strong organizational skills as applied to maintaining electronic databases and files
Self-starter and able to work with minimal support
