Director/Studio Director GENERAL SUMMARY The Structural Designer I
is an entry-level structural engineering professional who supports
the analysis, design, and documentation of structural systems for a
wide range of building types. Reporting to the Managing Director or
Studio Director and working under the direction of Senior Engineers
and Engineers, this role contributes to the successful delivery of
projects across commercial, healthcare, hospitality, institutional,
mixed-use, multifamily, residential, restaurant, retail, and
interior development sectors. The Structural Designer I assists in
preparing structural calculations, construction documents, and
technical deliverables while gaining practical experience in codes,
materials, coordination, and construction administration. This
position is designed to support technical growth, professional
development, and progression toward licensure. SUPERVISORY
RESPONSIBILITIES This position does not have direct supervisory
responsibilities. ESSENTIAL DUTIES To perform this job

functions. General duties and responsibilities include but are not
limited to, the following: Design & Technical Support Assist in the
analysis and design of structural systems for building projects,
including steel, composite systems, reinforced concrete, precast
concrete, post-tensioned concrete, tilt-up concrete, masonry,
timber, light-gauge framing, and shallow and deep foundation
systems. Perform basic structural calculations, load
determinations, and preliminary sizing under the supervision of a
licensed Professional Engineer. Prepare structural drawings,
details, and design documentation using Revit and AutoCAD in
accordance with company standards. Apply applicable building codes,
standards, and local jurisdictional requirements with guidance from
senior staff. Support the preparation of technical reports,
feasibility studies, and due diligence documentation. Project
Coordination Coordinate structural design elements with
Architectural, Civil, MEP, and Development Services teams to
support integrated project delivery. Participate in internal
project meetings and assist with documenting decisions and action
items. Assist in the preparation and tracking of project schedules,
cost estimates, and deliverables as assigned. Maintain organized
project files, design revisions, and QA/QC documentation. Produce
contract documents that conform to applicable building and zoning
codes. Check shop drawings and coordinate with internal and
external project team members under supervision. Perform
assignments with general instructions regarding expected outcomes
while receiving technical guidance on complex design issues and
supervisory review of proposed solutions. Construction
Administration Support Assist in reviewing contractor submittals
and shop drawings under the direction of senior engineers. Support
responses to Requests for Information (RFIs). Participate in site
visits to observe construction progress, document field conditions,
and report findings to project leadership. Team Collaboration &
Professional Development Collaborate effectively with engineers,
architects, designers, and project managers across disciplines.
Actively seek feedback and mentorship to enhance technical
knowledge and professional skills. Participate in training,
continuing education, and professional development activities. Work
toward obtaining Engineer-in-Training (EIT) certification and
eventual Professional Engineer (PE) licensure. REQUIRED SKILLS AND
ABILITIES Fundamental understanding of structural engineering
principles, load paths, and material behavior. Familiarity with
structural analysis and design software such as RISA-3D and
Enercalc (preferred). Proficiency in Revit and AutoCAD; working
knowledge of Bluebeam and Microsoft Office applications. Strong
attention to detail, accuracy, and organizational skills. Ability
to manage multiple tasks, prioritize work, and meet deadlines.
Effective written and verbal communication skills. Ability to work
independently while contributing to a collaborative,
multi-disciplinary team environment. EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
Bachelors or Masters degree in Structural Engineering or a related
discipline from an accredited program. 0–3 years of structural
engineering or structural design experience. Engineer-in-Training
(EIT) certification preferred but not required.
