Job Description:
We are looking for a Sustainability Manager to join our R&D
team in Chicago, Illinois! Located in the heart of downtown Chicago
along the Chicago River. Candidates located in Omaha, Nebraska will
also be considered.As the Sustainability Manager, you will lead the
development and implementation of sustainability programs related
to product portfolio, including climate change, packaging,
agriculture, water use, waste reduction, and other areas that may
improve the company's environmental impacts. You will consult with
and influence cross-functional peers both within and external to
R&D. You will proactively seek out methods, techniques and
resources to progress company sustainability agenda. You will
contribute, as needed, to corporate and product level transparency
initiatives (e.g. measurement and reporting).What else you'll do in
this role:
- Manage adoption of internal sustainability plans, policies,
standards and metrics.? -Contribute to periodic materiality
assessments of sustainability opportunity areas within the business
needs. -
- Monitor emerging issues and opportunities related to
sustainability and initiate conversations with business leaders to
determine materiality of same. -
- Engage with business peers to assess opportunities and risks
related to sustainability issues. -
- Collaborate with Brand teams, Operations, Procurement and other
functions on sustainable product strategies and actions, advising
on key areas of focus, providing subject matter expertise and
engaging with external stakeholders as necessary. -
- Provide subject matter expertise on sustainability matters to
business and cross-functional peers. -
- Develop internal network to promote sustainability objectives
across the organization.? -Manage programs to make progress towards
these objectives.? -Continuously evolve and report metrics that
define success.? -
- Develop supplier and other external networks progress
sustainability efforts.? -May also include involvement with trade
associations, customers, academics, NGOs and other external
collaboration forums.? -Participate in committees and/or working
groups as appropriate with these external networks. -
- Collaborate with Corporate Communications to promote company
sustainability achievements, including contributing content to ESG
and sustainability disclosures for investor, customers and other
business stakeholders. -
- Collaborate with Supply Chain sustainability teams to manage
sustainability strategies with sustainable product strategies
related to manufacturing. -
- May lead a small team depending on business needs. -
- Support Marketing and the brands in providing scientific
substantiation for environmental claims. -What you'll need to be
successful:
- Bachelor's degree in business, scientific or technical field
with sustainability coursework or experience.? -MBA or equivalent
education or work experience preferred.? -
- 6+ years related experience, preferably with CPG or food
production, including at least indirect people leadership. -
- Broad knowledge of environmental pressures related to climate
change, packaging, agriculture (including animal welfare), water,
waste issues.? - -
- Broad knowledge of food, food processing, packaging and
environmental issues preferred -
- Presentation skills, both oral and written? -
- Mentoring/coaching skills -
- Ability to influence external and internal stakeholders on
sustainability matters -
- Ability to work across groups and influence action without
direct authority -
- Ability to evaluate talents, growth capabilities of staff
members -
- Negotiating, conflict resolution skills -
- Able to demand performance standards from group members -
- Understanding of sustainability metrics, issues, trends and
technical terms -
- Ability to learn and operate in data systems related to product
development -
- Budgeting, financial analysis skills relevant to developing
business cases -
- Energy, enthusiasm, professional demeanor and engaging
personality to develop meaningful, productive relationships with
key individuals in all areas of government, academia and the food
industry who can assist and support the Company sustainability
strategy, policies and programs -
- Ability to travel up to 35% of the time. Must be able to travel
independently and as a responsible representative.Our Modern
