Primary Purpose
The Continuous Improvement Trainer develops and administers
standard Lean principles to resolve complex problems, from
conception to final design with team input across all functions of
the Supply Chain. Takes the lead in planning, scheduling, and
facilitating project assignments in the evaluation, selection and
adaptation of various Lean techniques, procedures, and criteria
with minimal guidance. Oversees and coordinates the operational
aspects of ongoing projects and serves as a liaison between project
management and planning, project-team, line management, and across
Supply Chain departments. Manages projects of small to large size
(scope), in a timely and cost-effective manner.
LEAN is a process of continuous improvement. Through this process,
quality is improved; productivity is increased with waste
elimination; resulting in cost reduction. Job focus is not limited
to current methods and procedures; the manager must be aware of
ever-changing methodologies that will provide improved processes,
identification of key drivers, and achieve results that can be
benchmarked with peer facilities as well as industry standards.
Major Responsibilities
- Acts as the primary teacher, mentor and coach for Lean
concepts, tools and methodologies within the distribution centers
(DC's)
- Facilitates, and drives projects which identify and remove
barriers to success and drive efficiency improvements
- Assists the management team with selecting appropriate projects
which support the overall organization's strategic objectives
- Provides input into the development and implementation of the
Supply Chain Lean strategy.
- Report/track the progress, milestones, savings, and other key
aspects of Lean activities across the Supply Chain
- Uses project management tools and techniques for tracking and
reporting on lean activities and projects
- Maintains a high level of safety awareness for an accident-free
workplace
- Understands and demonstrates Essendant's Core Values and

Skills/Knowledge Required
- Knowledge in measurement, data collection, analysis,
interpretation, and presentation to support decision making or
change management
- Ability to effectively communicate and influence across
multiple levels of leadership throughout the organization
- Demonstrated ability to support the planning, development, and
implementation of unique and creative solutions to operational
challenges
- Ability to drive solutions through collaboration with others
versus relying on own knowledge
- Strong ability to develop, lead, and work with cross-functional
teams
- Strong problem-solving skills and ability to take strong and
sometimes contrary positions when required
- Solid understanding of quality systems and continuous process
improvement methodologies: Six Sigma, Lean Distribution,
Statistical Process Control, TQM, ISO 9000, GMP, etc.
- Demonstrated ability to present and train associates in a
classroom and floor setting
- Strong time management skills and proven ability to meet
aggressive timelines
- Strong PC skills: Outlook, Word, Access, Excel, PowerPoint,
Visio
- Strong understanding of industry trends
Education And Experience
- Bachelor's degree in Supply Chain Management, Logistics,
Industrial Engineering, Quality, or two years of related field
experience
- Experience in training, leading, and facilitating LEAN events a
plus
- A minimum of 2-3 years of field experience in supply chain
management or warehousing/manufacturing required; 5 years of
experience preferred
- Travel is required and may involve up to 5% of the associate's
time
