Chemical Company is a profitable, family-owned specialty chemical
manufacturer and a market leader in the brands that we sell to our
end users and distributors. We are seeking an experienced senior
level EHS Specialist to work onsite at our plant near Midway
airport. This Senior EHS Specialist role is a senior individual
contributor position with no direct reports. Success in this role
is driven by technical depth in safety & environmental regulations,
ownership of PSM and regulatory compliance, and the ability to
influence leaders and teams across a non-union Class I Division 2
manufacturing environment. These responsibilities are fundamental
to the successful performance of this role. Regulatory Compliance &
EHS Programs Develop, implement, and maintain EHS programs to
ensure compliance with OSHA, EPA, DOT, and other applicable
regulations for manufacturing and laboratory operations, including
RCRA hazardous waste, air emissions, industrial hygiene,
occupational health, and EPA-required plans. Process Safety
Management (PSM) Serve as a key site leader for OSHA PSM
compliance, maintaining and continuously improving all 14 PSM
elements in partnership with Engineering, Maintenance, and
Production in a PSM-covered facility. Incident Investigation &
Prevention Own and lead the site incident investigation process,
ensuring effective root cause analysis, corrective actions, and
sustainable solutions that prevent recurrence and drive continuous
improvement. Safety Leadership, Culture & Behavioral-Based Safety
Champion a strong safety culture by leading the Plant Safety Team,
and by serving as the company leader for the SafeStart
behavioral-based safety program. Reinforce best practices through
engagement with leadership, training, audits, and proactive
employee involvement. Ability to assess hazards, determine
appropriate PPE requirements, audit PPE usage, and manage PPE
selection, ordering, and inventory in compliance with OSHA
standards. Training & Competency Management Ensure all employees
and contractors complete required EHS training by partnering with
department leaders to identify needs, approving qualified training
resources, and maintaining training plans that meet regulatory and
company requirements. Regulatory Reporting & Agency Interface
Prepare, submit, and maintain accurate and timely regulatory
filings and records, including OSHA injury logs, Tier II, SARA 313,
RCRA reports, wastewater testing, and air emissions reports.
Represent the facility during regulatory inspections and audits.
Education & Experience Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Safety,
Industrial Hygiene, Chemical Engineering, or a related technical
discipline, or equivalent experience. Minimum 7 years of
progressive EHS experience in chemical manufacturing or similarly
regulated industrial environments, including experience in a
PSM-covered facility. Certified Safety Professional (CSP) and/or
Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH) preferred. Skills & Abilities
Demonstrated expertise applying OSHA, EPA, and DOT regulations in a
manufacturing environment. Proven experience supporting or leading
compliance with OSHA Process Safety Management (PSM), including
practical application of the 14 PSM elements. Working knowledge of
RCRA hazardous waste management, air permitting and emissions
reporting, wastewater requirements, and EPA-required plans (e.g.,
SPCC). Experience preparing and submitting regulatory reports and
maintaining compliance records. Demonstrated ability to lead safety
and behavioral-based safety initiatives (e.g., SafeStart or
similar) through influence, coaching, and technical credibility in
a senior individual contributor role. Ability to facilitate
cross-functional projects using structured methods. High attention
to detail with the ability to deliver accurate, timely work.
Excellent planning, organizational, and time management skills.
Strong communication skills with the ability to influence at all
levels internally and externally. Proficiency in all Microsoft
